HONOLULU - The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is notifying the public of restored access across Waikomo Stream Bridge on Farrington Highway (Route 93) located between Keaʻau Beach Park and Keaʻau Homestead Road.

Repairs to the south abutment (the end support of the bridge) and southern approach slab began on the evening of Tuesday, May 12 and were completed as of Friday, May 22. Crews also installed sandbags and pumped grout to fill any voids below the bridge.

Waikomo Stream Bridge was repaired with limited access via standard passenger vehicles only through Friday, May 22, to ensure stability of the bridge. All weight and access restrictions have been lifted through Waikomo Stream Bridge.

An altered traffic pattern will continue to be implemented just north of the bridge, along Farrington Highway, due to storm erosion washing out the roadway. Motorists will encounter a single through lane in this area with yield signs on either side. Proceed with caution and obey all posted signage. See graphic above for the single through lane area.

A previous post-storm inspection found that the soil that supports the abutment walls and approach slab had been washed away in areas under the bridge, prompting the closure and repairs.

For a full list of lane closures scheduled on state roadways, please visit the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/.
