SAN DIEGO - The Caltrans I-805 North Drainage Culvert and Asset Management Project team will close all lanes of southbound Interstate 805 (I-805) from the Interstate 5 (I-5)/I-805 split to Governor Drive Friday, April 17 at 9 p.m. to Sunday, April 19 at 5 a.m. for culvert replacement underneath the freeway just south of Nobel Drive.

Motorists will remain on southbound I-5 and can connect to eastbound SR-52 or eastbound I-8 to reach southbound I-805.
Motorists in Sorrento Valley may travel south on I-805 from Sorrento Valley Road to Miramar Road.

Entrances and exits at Nobel Drive will be closed.

Portable changeable message signs will be placed along the routes advising of the closure and suggesting alternate routes.

Businesses and homes near Nobel Drive should anticipate construction noise and lighting during the closure.

This project will rehabilitate culverts, upgrade pavement, enhance roadside safety, and add complete-streets features to improve accessibility and long-term use. These improvements are designed to ensure effective regional service, improve safety and performance, and promote environmental conservation.

The total estimated cost for the project is about $53.7 million, funded by the State Highway Operation Protection Program, with $47.6 million from Federal funds and $6.1 million from State funds.

This project is part of $1.6 billion worth of work in San Diego County and a segment of the $623 million investment to improve safety and infrastructure on I-5, I-805, and SR-78.

Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert if traveling in the area and to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment.

The work schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other work-related reasons.
