Europe Day 2026 - 50th anniversary of the EU Delegation to Canada

The EU Delegation to Canada marked a truly special moment this year, celebrating its 50th anniversary alongside Europe Day at the beautiful Canadian Museum of History.

At the heart of the evening was a powerful symbol of unity. Colleagues from the Delegation and EU diplomatic missions came together to form a choir, "Notes Verbales." After weeks of rehearsal hosted by Ambassador Martínez Serrano at the Spanish Embassy, they stood side by side to perform "Ode to Joy" and "O Canada", bringing together two traditions in one shared voice. The result was more than music; it was a reflection of what the European project stands for: diversity, unity and harmony, lived and felt.

We were honoured to welcome Anita Indira Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs. In a moving moment, Minister Anand joined EU Ambassador Geneviève Tuts and the choir, embodying the closeness of the EU-Canada relationship.

The evening was also a celebration of shared tastes and traditions. With the support of De Havilland Aircraft of Canada and Tree of Life Canada, and in partnership with ELLE Gourmet, guests experienced a menu that blended European richness with Canadian ingredients, telling the story of 50 years of EU presence in Canada, in every bite.

For this occasion, Niagara Falls was also illuminated in blue.

Beyond institutions and agreements, what truly defines our partnership is something more fundamental: People. As we mark this 50th anniversary, we celebrate people-to-people ties, for all those who build bridges across the Atlantic.

Thank you to all our partners, colleagues and friends who bring the EU and Canada closer together every single day!
