NATA (the National Air Transportation Association) today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives' overwhelming approval of the Airspace Location and Enhanced Risk Transparency (ALERT) Act, bipartisan legislation to strengthen aviation safety across the National Airspace System.
The ALERT Act advances a performance-based approach to aviation safety by supporting stronger risk mitigation, improving situational awareness for pilots and controllers, strengthening FAA safety culture, and encouraging more consistent training and procedures in complex operating environments. The House of Representatives passed the measure in a 396-10 vote.
"Today, the House of Representatives took another significant step toward strengthening aviation safety by approving legislation that advances deployment of available safety technologies while accelerating development of emerging collision avoidance systems. The ALERT Act is a comprehensive and thoughtful response to every recommendation that emerged from the NTSB's investigation of last year's tragic midair collision near DCA. We encourage Congressional leaders to maintain this focus as they work toward final legislation approved by both chambers," said NATA President and CEO Curt Castagna.
