A systemwide response to extreme snowfall in Juneau

January 23, 2026

Juneau received about 97 inches of snow between early December and mid-January, creating challenging conditions across Southeast Alaska.

At UAS, Facilities crews worked extended hours to keep campuses safe and accessible. The Juneau Campus Facilities team worked around the clock as snowfall continued to accumulate.

As snow loads increased, additional support arrived from across the UA system. Eleven UAF Facilities employees traveled to Juneau to join UAS Facilities staff and several contractors in shoveling roofs and removing snow from campus buildings.
