Incorrect depiction of Greek islands

Incorrect depiction of Greek islands

7.12.2025

Question for written answer E-004840/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Yannis Maniatis (S&D)

In the latest edition of the publication 'Exploring Europe!' (ISBN 978-92-68-19677), published by the European Commission, there is, at least in the German-language version of the publication, a significant error on the map of Europe on pages 7 and 13, as the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese are depicted as belonging not to Greece, but to Türkiye. In contrast, in an earlier edition from 2020, this map correctly depicts the corresponding islands in the colour used for Greece.

In view of the above:

  • 1.Is the Commission aware of this 'mistake' and what does it intend to do to correct it?
  • 2.How can the Commission ensure that such serious 'mistakes' will not be repeated in future?
