The National Assembly's standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union is taking part in the 152nd IPU session in Istanbul. The delegation is headed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek, and includes members Mladen Grujic, Dijana Radovic, Ivana Stamatovic and Ivana Rokvic.
Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek took part in the general debate with the theme "Nurturing Hope, Securing Peace and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations". In his address, he spoke of the contemporary global dangers of hunger, wars, diseases and natural disasters, and appealed for the reaffirmation of responsibility, mutual respect, building trust, cooperation and establishing peace. "It is all of our duty to leave to future generations a world in which dialogue will take precedence over confrontation, and cooperation over divisions. Do not forget - peace is not a given! It is the result of continuous engagement and responsible action by all actors of the international community", Djerlek emphasised in his speech. "Diplomacy is an act of responsibility towards humanity! Only by joining forces and agreeing in the opinion that peace is possible and achievable can we ensure that future generations receive a world without bombs and destruction", concluded Djerlek.
At the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, Ivana Stamatovic invited the delegations to take part in the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians, which will be held in Belgrade from 2 to 4 June this year, co-organised by the National Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. During the session, the National Assembly successfully promoted the Global Conference at a promotional stand in front of the main plenary hall.
Our delegation had a large number of meetings and encounters with top state officials, such as the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Speakers of the Parliaments of Australia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Malta, Nepal and Uzbekistan, the highest officials of the IPU, MPs from the UK, Greece, Cambodia, Canada, Armenia, Georgia and countries in the region.
