Washington, D.C. - A video from Frisco, Texas shows a man tearing India's flag outside City Hall while people in the crowd shout anti-India slogans. This is the latest example of anti-Indian attacks that have taken place in Texas, and across the entire country. Following this racist and xenophobic act in Frisco, Congressman Shri Thanedar released the following statement:
"This is a disgusting act of hate. Anti-Indian attacks have spiked on the ground and on social media in the last couple of years, and if you don't believe me, look at my social media or that of any other Indian elected official. Racism has no place in our country: these horrific actions need to stop
I came to America in search of the American Dream. I was lucky enough to get an education, build businesses, create thousands of good jobs, and now serve my community in Congress.
Immigrants make our country stronger. Indian Americans, and the incredible talent they bring to every field, have a special place in the American story. I am proud to be an Indian American, and I will always stand against hate and racism in every form."
Congressman Shri Thanedar proudly represents Michigan's 13th Congressional District, which includes Detroit, Downriver, and the Grosse Pointes. As a champion for working families, Shri is committed to advancing economic opportunities, education, healthcare access, and entrepreneurship for underserved communities. Drawing from his journey from poverty to success, he works tirelessly to uplift Metro Detroit, ensuring every resident has the resources and support they need to thrive.
