Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy is honoring those who have served by ensuring they have greater opportunities here at home. This evening, the Albany County Legislature approved his request to amend Albany County's Affirmative Action Policy to add Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses (SDVOBs). This update ensures that SDVOBs are given equitable access to contracts for goods, services, or construction. The timing of this announcement underscores Albany County's ongoing commitment to Veterans and their families as the community celebrates Veteran's Day.

"This change is about more than policy; it's about principle," said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. "As we prepare to honor our Veterans this week, I'm proud that we're taking action that moves beyond words and ceremonies. This legislation ensures those who have given so much for our country have access to economic opportunity and recognizes their ongoing role in building our future. As a Veteran I am proud to stand behind this effort."

Previously, the performance goals of these regulations were 7% for Minority Business Enterprises (MBE's) and 5% for Women Business Enterprises (WBE's) for contracts awarded over $100,000. This amendment now adds 3% for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOBs), which increases the overall utilization goal to a combined 15%.
