The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 140 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.
Below are some tips and projects they are working on:
Traffic Crews Respond to Traffic Signal Cabinet Damage Following Vehicle Accident
League City traffic crews recently responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of League City Parkway and I-45 that caused significant damage to the traffic signal cabinet.
Upon arrival, crews found the intersection completely dark. The first thing technicians did was place stop signs in all directions to ensure the safety of motorists. A new cabinet was then installed, and the signals were placed in red-flash mode. While the intersection operated in red-flash mode, technicians began making necessary repairs to restore full functionality.
Due to the extent of the damage, the traffic signal cabinet required a complete replacement. While signal timers can sometimes be salvaged in these situations, the timer in this case was beyond repair and had to be manually reprogrammed in a new unit.
League City's traffic team worked diligently to restore safe and reliable signal operations as quickly as possible.
Line Repair Vactor Unit Inspection
All city vehicles are vital in supporting municipal departments and serving the community. This 2020 Kenworth Vactor 2100 was recently brought to Fleet Maintenance for a routine inspection. During the inspection, technicians identified the need to replace the water pump assembly. After successfully replacing the water pump and completing the general inspection, the unit was returned to standard service. It has resumed its essential duties, helping to keep drainage lines clean and clear as part of its daily operations.
