Flight Schedule Adjustments Expected this Summer

Ticketed passengers on flights at Reagan National Airport (DCA) this summer are advised to closely monitor the status of their flights for adjustments during America 250 celebrations in Washington, D.C. Many events will include downtown flyovers or other aerial displays such as fireworks or parachute jumps, which will affect flights periodically at Reagan National. Some of the major events include:

  • June 24-25 Great American State Fair opening
  • June 28 Military Appreciation Day
  • July 3-4 Independence Day rehearsals and celebrations
  • July 10 Great American State Fair closeout flyover and parachute jump
  • August 22-23 Grand Prix near the National Mall

In some instances, airline flight schedules have already been adjusted to avoid pre-planned airspace closure times and minimize impacts on travelers. In other cases, DCA flights may be delayed by temporary holds as coordinated through air traffic control communications. Weather also could impact flights during this time.

Guidance for airport passengers

  • Many of the airspace closures are expected to have a limited duration and impact.
  • Passengers should double-check flight times and consult with their airline for specific scheduling information.
  • During these airspace restrictions, customers at Reagan National will still have access to terminal concessions and parking.

The most significant impacts will occur on July 3rd and 4th to allow for aerial rehearsals, performances and July 4 evening fireworks.

  • July 3: No DCA flights are scheduled for several hours in the early afternoon.
  • July 4: No DCA flights are scheduled after noon. Terminal services will operate at a reduced capacity until flights resume on July 5.

There are no approved locations to view fireworks on airport property.

  • Pedestrian access from the Reagan National Metro stop to Gravelly Point will be marked with signage.
  • Airport parking for non-airline travel purposes is extremely limited.

Passenger guidance regarding these events is subject to change. For the latest information about airport impacts, customers can visit flyreagan.com.
