'Til Death Do Us Arrrgh: Vampire Pirate Weddings Set Sail This Halloween

Lane County Clerk Tommy Gong will help couples celebrate their marriages in spooky style on Halloween this year.

"Halloween is a favorite holiday for many people and what fun to combine it with the joy of marrying the person you love," said Gong. "I can't wait to see the creativity and delight our scaremonies bring to people on their big day."

The theme is "vampirates" - or vampire pirates - and couples are encouraged to dress in costume. Gong will officiate the marriages in costume and other staff members in the Clerk's Office will dress up to add to the effect.

There are 15 slots available to schedule on a first come, first served basis. Ceremonies will be conducted in 20-minute intervals from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, at the County Clerk's Office at 125 E. 8th Avenue, Eugene.

To schedule a scaremony, couples must first obtain a valid marriage license from the Clerk's Office (125 E. 8th Avenue, Eugene). To obtain a marriage license, couples fill out the online Marriage License Application and then must visit the Clerk's Office at least three days before the ceremony to complete the license process.

The marriage license fee is $60 and a marriage officiated by the County Clerk is $117. Additional details, including license requirements and scheduling information, can be found on the Lane County Clerk's website.
